Seven Fleets representing 11 States and three countries (US, Canada and England) participated in our 2012 Michelob Light One Design Midwinters at the Sarasota Sailing Squadron.  Almost 200 sailors descended upon the club and enjoyed spectacular weather. The Daysailer, Flying Scot, S2 7.9, and VX One fleets started their regatta Friday with a 12 o’clock start.

Read full articleThe Windjammer Regatta is a reincarnation of an event from the past of the Sarasota Sailing Squadron. The new version is now three years old and is sponsored by SSS, Venice Yacht Club and Venice Sailing Squadron. The idea is to emulate offshore point-to-point races, first from Sarasota to Venice on a Saturday and then back to Sarasota the next day.

Read full articleAlthough we have enjoyed a mostly mild winter Sunday, March 4th we were met with Gale force winds and the cancellation, once again, of the Cherry Pie regatta.
The Cherry Pie cancellation wasn’t the only loss that day. Two boats from in or around the Mooring Field washed away during the 9 hours of sustained 26mph winds with gusts exceeding 40.
