Notice of Race and Sailing Instructions
1 RULES
1.1 The series will be governed by the rules as defined in The Racing Rules of Sailing (RRS) 2009-2012, including the WFPHRF Class Rules and the one-design class rules of any eligible/participating class.
1.2 RLC ratings will be used.
2 ELIGIBILITY AND ENTRY
2.1 Classes will be Spinnaker, Non-Spinnaker, Multi-Hull, Fun and any one design fleet with three (3) or more entries.
2.2 The Fun class will sail shorter courses with more reaching legs. Any boat wishing to participate may enter and will be scored using their WFPHRF Non-Spinnaker RLC rating.
2.3 This event is open to boats who meet all of the following criteria:
a) A current WFPHRF rating certificate. Boats without a current WFPHRF certificate can participate in any class, however, they will not be eligible to be scored for the series.
b) Meeting all USCG requirements for the size of boat and number of person aboard
c) All required navigation lights/equipment working/on board
d) Paid entry fee of $5 per race or a discounted rate of $75, paid in advance, for all 18 races in the Friday night series.
d) Signed-in no later than 1800 before EACH race in which they intend to compete, unless competitor has paid for the series in advance. In this case, competitor may check in on land or with the Race Committee boat prior to the start of the race.
3 NOTICES TO COMPETITORS
3.1 Notices to competitors will be posted on the official notice board located on the porch of the SSS Clubhouse.
3.2 As a courtesy and at its own discretion, race committee will monitor and/or communicate with competitors on the water on VHF channel 72. There is no requirement for race committee to communicate this way.
3.3 Any changes to the sailing instructions will be posted before 1700 on the day it will take effect.
4 SIGNALS MADE ASHORE
Signals made ashore will be displayed from the flagpole located at the Sarasota Sailing Squadron.
If a postponement is signaled ashore, ‘1 minute’ is changed to ’30 minutes’ in race signal AP.
5 SCHEDULE
5.1 The scheduled time of the warning signal for the first class is 1830.
5.2 One race is scheduled on each of the race dates listed.

5.3 A minimum of 1 race shall constitute a series.
6 CLASS FLAGS
WFPHRF Spinnaker – Solid Purple
WFPHRF Non-Spinnaker – Solid Brown
WFPHRF Multi Hull – Solid Pink
WFPHRF Fun Class – Light Blue
Flying Scot – FS Logo on White Flag
E Scow – E Logo on Blue over Red Background
Any other one design class flags will be determined the day of the race and displayed on the committee boat prior to the start of the race.
7 RACING AREA AND OBSTRUCTIONS
The race area will be Sarasota Bay. There are no areas designated as obstructions. There are shallow waters in the racing area. Competitors should consult their navigation charts to determine areas of insufficient depth for their boat to transit safely.
8 COURSES
8.1 The Race Committee boat will display the course(s) to be sailed and order of starts by Class.
8.2 All marks are to be left to Port unless followed by (s), in which case the mark is to be left to Starboard.
9 MARKS
Marks are the orange or yellow cylinder shaped marks maintained by the SSS. Marks 13, 15, 19 and NP refer to the government maintained ICW marks.
10 THE START AND FINISH
10.1 The starting line and finish line will be between the staff of an orange flag on the signal boat and government mark ICW 13 or closest mark as determined by the race committee and the course sailed. 10.2 Race committee can change the starting mark at their discretion and will fly the Follow Me flag in order to do so.
11 TIME LIMIT
The time limit for completing the race is 2100. Boats that have not completed the course by 2100 shall be scored DNF. If no boats complete the course by 2100 the race shall be abandoned. Failure to meet the target time will not be grounds for redress. This changes rule 62.1(a).
12 PROTESTS AND REQUESTS FOR REDRESS
12.1 Boats intending to protest shall inform the Race Committee promptly after finishing of their intention to protest and the name(s) and/or sail number(s) of the boat(s) they intend to protest.
12.2 The protest hearing(s) will be held as soon as practical after the formation of a Protest Committee. If Protest Committee cannot be formed on the date of the race, the protest may be heard at a later date.
12.3 Notice of protests by the race committee or protest committee will be posted on the official notice board to inform boats under rule 61.1(b).
13 SCORING
13.1 The Series will be scored using the High Point system whereby each boat will receive one point for each boat that it finished ahead of in each race. In the event six races are completed the best 5 races for each boat will be counted. Boats that do not compete, do not start and do not finish any races will receive 0 points for those races.
13.2 Racers serving as race committee instead of racing shall be awarded points equal to the first place finish for the race in which they served.
14 ENVIRONMENTAL
Any competitor registered in any SSS sponsored event who throws any refuse overboard, including but not limited to aluminum cans, plastic items, bottles, etc., is subject to being disqualified by the race committee, without filing a protest. This changes rules 63 and A5.
15 DISCLAIMER OF LIABILITY
Competitors participate in the regatta entirely at their own risk. See RRS 4, Decision to Race. The organizing authority will not accept any liability for material damage or personal injury or death sustained in conjunction with or prior to, during, or after the regatta.
16 TROPHIES
Trophies will be awarded based on the number of participants in each class as follows:
Up to 4 boats = 1 trophy
5 to 6 boats = 2 trophies
7 or more boats =3 trophies
