SQUADRON DATE 011712… Read full article It’s Saturday and I am for the second time trying to write what I normally would write Wednesday afternoon but due to the failure of my hard drive and the necessity to buy another much faster machine and the problems I’ve had getting this machine to respond like I’m used to and not rapidly repeat each character and taming the mouse to respond quickly and not just sit and look at me.

Wanda was the first to arrive with Stu Barnette being a close second. Stu along with Wally Merrill took on the job of rejoining a finger pier with the Wave Fence.

SQUADRON DATE 042711… Read full article The hottest day so far this year, however, it won’t be the last. Unfortunately, as it is after Easter, Ballbuster’s and extra workers were in short supply. Many of them have already begun to trek northward as in the Flight of the Snowbirds. Stu Barnette took the Golf Cart battery charger apart and rebuilt it so it looks like new and then screwed it into the back wall of the Garage so it couldn’t be pulled off and broken again.

SQUADRON DATE 022311… Read full article Hot and getting hotter by the minute. We’re back to summer early. Our main job today was to clean up a huge mess created by the YSP sponsored Work Party on Saturday. They trimmed many Brazilian Peppers and other types of underbrush and after the Yard Trash Dumpster was filled they dumped the remainder in front of it in such a fashion that the dumpster could not be emptied.

SQUADRON DATE 012611… Read full article I stopped at Sarasota Hardware on the way to the Squadron and picked up stainless 3” Lags so Alan Titcombe could attach a Fend-Off on the Aluminum floating docks. He was helped by me early and Larry MacMillian later. I also got ½ inch hardware cloth so Walter and Ed Steenstra (he did most of the work)could close the gap at the top of the fire place brick and clubhouse ceiling and prevent Jo Jo (Walter’s cat) and our Russian Blue cat from accessing the area.

SQUADRON DATE 122210… Read full article Longest day of the year and very cold in the early morning but warming up so rapidly that Walter Wyatt and I could drink our coffee at the Main Dock Deck before 8 AM. Wanda was the first to arrive and was helped at the bar by Ruth Nordman while her husband Chuck shoveled sand out of the ramp area which was completely exposed by low tide.

SQUADRON DATE 112410 Last Wednesday Work Party in November and the day before Thanksgiving. Fortunately a bunch of members showed up today with Ron & Don continuing the replacement of blocks and line at the BBQ with stainless blocks and new 1/8th… Read full article inch line. As usual they did not finish the project due to time constraints and cold and very windy weather.

IN MEMORIUM… Read full article Few members of the present day Squadron will remember Don Wakeman who died in August in Maine aboard his yacht, Avatar of a heart attack. He was a naval engineer and yachtsman who participated in America cup defenses in 1964 and 1967. He sailed around the world on the yacht Ondine and worked for Sparkman & Stephens, Boston Whaler and other firms and eventually for Welcraft in the early 1980’s.

SQUADRON DATE 092210… Read full article Still cool with the wind gusting out of the eastnortheast and really picking up just before noon. Alan Titcombe came back from his month up north and planted a monofilament line depository by the small launching ramp and helped me dispose of several Brazilian Peppers that I dug out from the front of the club and drove around with me and picked up some more palm fronds out by the entrance way and more junk on the point past the hoist area.

SQUADRON DATE 082510… Read full article When I arrived at the Squadron about 7:30 AM carrying drip edge for the new shed I was met by Ron Biney carrying cardboard boxes out from the club. He said he came early to avoid school zones. Don St. Clair came next and helped Ron & Wanda & Ruth Nordman stock the bar.
